It Sizzles Up North. Experience It.

Bemidji State University's 89-acre, wooded campus sits on the shore of beautiful Lake Bemidji. You can relax and study on one of the sandy beaches adjacent to campus or take full advantage of the lake at your footsteps. Go swimming, skiing, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, or whatever lake activity keeps you cool during those sizzling summer days. You'll love the resort-like feel of the area, while studying with us in the summer.

The Campus

Outdoor Program Center

The nationally-recognized Outdoor Program Center with its new lakeside facility rents kayaks, stand up paddle boards, canoes, pontoons, sailboats, ski boats, x-country skies, mountain bikes, tents, backpacks, snowshoes, fish houses, and sleeping bags for rental. Weekend trips and semester break trips available at student-discounted prices.

OPC's lakeside boathouse is nestled in Diamond Point Park, just steps away from campus. The park offers lakeside benches and walkways, grills, and gazebos - a perfect combination for a quick study-break getaway. A newly built biking and walking trail winds it way along the lake and through campus, offering students a great outdoor experience that's handy and inexpensive.

Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center

The Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center offers state of the art equipment and facilities that will help you slim down, tone up, de-stress, or just plain play. Students meeting minimum enrollment requirements can use the facilities for free. The facility includes four activity courts adaptable for basketball, tennis, volleyball, and badminton; a six-lane 200 meter indoor track; free and fixed weight rooms; five racquetball courts; a state-of-the-art climbing wall; a six-lane 25 year pool; a spacious dance studio; and a variety of cardiovascular equipment.  Various programs are offered throughout the summer.

Activities

There is also a variety of activities on campus to take part in throughout the summer. Past events have included bowling nights, movie nights, special deals on food/beverages at the Lakeside Food Court, giveaways, tie-dye, musicians, games and more. These events are advertised through campus emails, posters, flyers, and calendars that will be distributed at events, in the Residence Halls and the Hobson Memorial Union Information Desk.

Bemidji

Besides lake activities, you can shop the dozens of craft and art fair vendors who visit Bemidji every summer. Also plan to take time out for city summer festivals, including the Bemidji Jaycees Water Carnival, Art in the Park, the Big Bog Festival, and the Bemidji Dragon Boat Festival. If you need a weekend getaway - not too far away, take a short drive south to Itasca State Park to hike, bike, camp, and experience the park tradition of wading barefoot at the source of the Mighty Mississippi River!
