Find your forte
With affordable tuition, facilities that are among the best in all of MNSCU, caring and talented faculty, outstanding scholarship opportunities, and a supportive and arts-oriented community, the BSU Department of Music is a treasure.
Our academic programs and student ensembles are internationally renowned for producing some of the country’s finest professional musicians and music educators.
Students may choose between several majors, and we also offer a minor in Music. Many of our music majors pursue the Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education, and nearly 100% of BS majors find teaching positions soon after graduating. You may also pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Music, which includes Performance and Pedagogy or will allow you to tailor your studies in areas such as Arts Management and Composition.
What Can You Do with a Music Degree?
Many graduates choose to enter graduate school or pursue careers in related fields. Graduates of our programs include music professors at major universities, the Director for Public Relations for the Minnesota Orchestra, and the former Director of the Minnesota Opera Company. Recent BSU music graduates have won honors at national and international competitions, including the MTNA Collegiate Artist Competition.
The Bemidji State University Wind Ensemble is proud to be one of the featured performing groups at the 2019 Minnesota Music Educators Association Midwinter Clinic.
The performance will be on Thursday, February 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Minneapolis Convention Center. Conducted by our very own Maestro Scott Guidry, the exciting program will feature the world premiere of Robert Thurston’s Ningabii’anose, commissioned for Bemidji State University’s Centennial Celebration this year!
