Impact

As a non-traditional student, the BSU Geography Department was the perfect place for me to build on foundational skills I’d already acquired in the military. Studying Geography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) helped me see the world through an entirely different lens. The spaces we as humans define can create immense opportunities or catastrophic injustices. Geography doesn’t just let us study these spaces; it gives us the tools to share our understand of them with others, to change their meanings, and to improve them. As a GIS Technician, I’ve had opportunities to do work dealing with land use, natural resource planning, environmental justice, cultural integrity and revitalization, tribal sovereignty, climate change, emergency management, and so much more. I truly love the work I do each and every day!
