Men’s Golf Finishes 20th at NCAA Super Regional

After winning the NSIC Championship for the first time since 2000, BSU men’s golf finished its season with a 20th-place finish at the NCAA Super Regional, May 11-13 in Winona. Freshman Rylan Petry was BSU’s low scorer, finishing in a tie for 33rd with a three-round 222. BSU’s April 23 NSIC Championship win came in dramatic fashion, as it carded rounds of 296-295-289 to edge out second-place Winona State by a single stroke. Petry and Caden Lick finished second amongst individuals, while Logan Schoepp placed fifth; the three freshmen each earned NSIC All- Tournament Team honors. Ekren Miller also was named NSIC Coach of the Year.

22 Beavers Earn NSIC Brand Award Laurels

BSU landed 22 student-athletes on the 2023 NSIC Myles Brand Award list, announced in January. The Brand Award honors student- athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and are on track to graduate with GPAs of 3.75 or higher. BSU’s 22 recipients were its most in the 14-year history of the award.

Yoder Earns First-Team All-NSIC Nod

Senior guard Trinity Yoder capped her BSU career with a spot on the All-NSIC First Team after earning second-team honors the last two years. Yoder led BSU in scoring, assists and steals and was seventh in the league averaging 15.9 points per game. She finished her career with 1,532 points, fourth all-time at BSU and is the program’s all-time leader in free throws made and attempted. She also ranks third all-time at BSU in assists and fourth in steals.

Men’s Hoops Posts 20 Wins, Advances to NSIC Semis

BSU men’s basketball reached the 20-win plateau and advanced to the NSIC Tournament semifinals to cap its best season in more than a decade. Behind a career-high 23 points from freshman guard Johnny Tennyson, BSU toppled Wayne State — top seed from the NSIC South — 79-71 for its first NSIC Semifinals berth since 2013. There, BSU fell on a buzzer-beater, 78-77, to MSU Moorhead. BSU’s 20 wins were the team’s best since 2012, when BSU finished 22-9 under head coach Matt Bowen.

Football Coaching Staff Adds Two

BSU head football coach Brent Bolte has added two assistant coaches to his staff. Dylan Chmura joins as offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator, while Joe Ford will be the program’s new defensive coordinator. Both hires were announced in late April.

Softball Earns First NSIC Tourney Berth Since 2017

The BSU softball team snuck into its first NSIC Tournament since 2017 on the last day of the regular season, splitting an April 30 home-field doubleheader against the University of Sioux Falls to earn the tourney’s No. 10 seed. In the May 3 tourney opener, BSU dropped its first game, 3-2 in 11 innings, against Minot State before a historic Game 2 win over Minnesota State, Mankato. Down 4-0 after the second inning, BSU rallied for a 9-4 victory — just the team’s second win ever against the Mavericks. BSU was eliminated from the tournament on May 4 in an 11-3 loss to Concordia-St. Paul.

Elias Rosén Again Named First-Team All-CCHA, Inks Pro Deal

For the third consecutive season, BSU defenseman Elias Rosén earned a berth on the All-CCHA First Team. He scored in 19 of 36 games for BSU, including seven multi-point games. He finished his career with 94 points, second-most amongst defensemen in BSU’s Division I era and tied for eighth overall. In March, he signed an amateur tryout contract with the East Coast Hockey League’s Kansas City Mavericks.
