Dedication of College Fire Place, 1932

In 1929 President Manfred Deputy’s wife suggested an outdoor lakeside fireplace. The idea was turned into reality in 1932 when students, alumni, training school children and faculty began collecting stones from which the fireplace and seats would be constructed. The fireplace was dedicated by President Deputy on June 6th 1932, “to the spirit of recreation, friendship, and good will.” By 1960 the fireplace was crumbling and the immediate area surrounding was overgrown with weeds. Thinking that the 50th anniversary alumni would want to use the fireplace, the university had the fireplace repaired in 1969.
