Congratulations! Welcome to the Bemidji State University graduate community!
Admitted Student Next Steps
Here’s everything you need to be ready on day one of your first semester as a graduate student.
Student ID Card
You will need an ID card to use the Library, access the Gillett Wellness Center or print in any computer lab.
- On-Campus Student IDs. ID cards printed at the Information Desk on the 2nd floor of the Hobson Memorial Union (check site for hours).
- Distance Student IDs. Contact the Center for Extended Learning (800-852-7422 or cel@bemidjistate.edu) to request a “Distance Education ID” without a picture.
Technology Services
- Activate Your Email. Your BSU email account is required for accessing all official communications. To activate your email, visit myBSU and select New Account Activation.
- Connect to the Wireless Network. Connecting to the BSU wireless network requires a username, password and proper configuration of your computer. Please contact (in person) Technical Support in Deputy Hall, Room 161 with a current and valid BSU ID to obtain your username and password.
- Learn About Computer Labs. Information Technology Services provides a number of labs for the university community. You will find computers in the library, some classroom buildings and residence halls.
Student Services and Help Desk
Both on-campus and distance students can reach out to the Student Help Desk with any issues or challenges you encounter. The Student Help Desk can provide telephone and walk-in support and assistance connecting to the BSU network.
We also offer students immediate information and assistance for topics such as email, D2L login, e-Services, etc. If you have a more challenging question that cannot be answered so easily, please submit a “Help Ticket” for further assistance.
Campus Living
- Purchase a Parking Permit. Purchase parking permits for lots on campus at any point in the academic year. Street parking is free but subject to the city’s parking regulations. BSU provides ample disabled parking for those who need it.
- Reserve Housing. You’ll find many housing options both on and off campus. If you live off campus, you can use our campus lockers (managed by HMU) that are free to BSU registered students.
- Review On-Campus Dining. We have a number of on-campus dining options, and many of the city’s best restaurants and cafes are a short distance from campus. You can deposit money onto your ID card for buying food and other things on campus. Visit the Dining Services Office, Cashiers Office (Deputy Hall) or buy more Beaver Bucks online once you’ve created an account.
Health & Support Services
- Visit Student Health & Counseling. We offer an on-campus health and counseling service facility for all students.
- Get Health Insurance. All students are required to have health insurance. BSU does not offer its own plans but can help you in finding coverage if you need it.
Academic Advising
- Meet Your Advisor. After you’re admitted, one of your first contacts with BSU should be your academic advisor, who is assigned upon your acceptance into your graduate program. Your program advisor is your guide during your time at BSU. Since your advisor is involved with the day-to-day processes of your program, you should be in communication with them regularly concerning your academic progress and coursework. If you are unclear who your advisor is, please contact the School of Graduate Studies.
- Get to Know Your Department. The academic department also plays a large role in the graduate experience, as it is the department that makes admission decisions and ensures the quality of the curriculum. The department has a vested interest in its graduate students because, upon completion, its graduates become ambassadors for their program. They want to see their students succeed and are happy to assist them throughout their graduate education and experience.
Registration
- Register for Courses. Review the registration process and register for your first semester.
- Purchase Textbooks. For textbooks, apparel, gifts and more, the BSU Bookstore is on the 1st floor of Hobson Memorial Union.
Tuition & Payments
- View Your Bill. Bemidji State University requires students to view their account online as an electronic invoice in lieu of preparing and mailing routine paper invoices. It is your responsibility as a student to access your tuition account through the MyBSU Portal.
- Pay Your Bill. You may pay your bill online, by mail via check or money order or in person in the Cashiers office (located on the second floor of Deputy Hall).
- See Additional Resources. Also you can check tuition tools & resources.
