Bemidji Normal School Opens 1919

Bemidji out-maneuvered Thief River Falls, Minn. and Cass Lake, Minn. to secure Minnesota’s sixth normal school for teacher education. The construction of the first academic building began in 1918 and under the strict eye of President Manfred Deputy, Bemidji Normal first welcomed students in 1919. World War I had ended and America’s women would soon the right to vote.
