TYPE OF POSITION: Graduate Assistantship as Evening/Weekend Supervisor for Library
SALARY: $9,500 for academic year and 15 graduate credits of tuition waiver

Position Objective:
The Bemidji State University Library graduate assistants provide academic support for Bemidji State University students, faculty, and staff, as well as community patrons through library research assistance, instruction, and services.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as evening and weekend supervisor for the library, providing directional assistance and preliminary research help to faculty, staff, students, and community users, and monitoring the library.
- Assist with the library’s Course Reserves / Textbook Affordability initiatives.
- Participate in the development of the library’s collections.
- Assist with instruction services.
- Support the library’s digitization efforts.
- Develop content, such as research guides and social media posts, to support the library’s virtual presence.
- Collect data on user counts and transactions and assist with analysis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Workload:
The Graduate Assistant works twenty hours per week. In collaboration with the Library Graduate Assistants, the Graduate Assistant supervisor writes a schedule at the beginning of every semester, based on their class schedule and on the scheduling needs of the department. Typical hours of coverage, to be shared on a rotation basis by three Library Graduate Assistants are: Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Sunday 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. NOTE: Hours are subject to change. Library Graduate Assistants are responsible for providing back-up for each other to maintain service continuity. Library Graduate Assistants may also be required to provide backup at the library’s Circulation Desk.
Required Qualifications:
The successful applicant must possess good interpersonal skills, a friendly disposition, an orientation toward service, self-confidence, and the ability to deal calmly with potential emergencies. Additionally, they must:
- be familiar with basic searching for information in a library (both online and in print)
- be able to use computer software in an online environment
- be able to communicate effectively across multiple platforms (e.g., phone, in-person, email, Zoom, and chat)
- have a desire to learn to use new services and resources in an ever-changing information environment
- be actively committed to ensuring that the library is welcoming and safe for people of all identities, backgrounds, cultures, perspectives and competencies
Applicants must be available to work throughout the entire academic year.
In addition to the requirements listed above, applicants must also meet the School of Graduate Studies requirements:
- must be admitted to a master’s program at Bemidji State University
- must maintain a Grade Point Average of 3.0
- demonstrate a knowledge of and interest in diverse cultures and populations
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who:
- have excellent customer service skills and/or have experience in a sales or service position, with a high-level of customer interaction
- demonstrate an ability to help others in using the various types and formats of information found in an academic library (both online and in print), as well as knowing the basic techniques of using and accessing the library’s resources
- are self-starting and motivated team players, willing to assist with special projects as needed
