Water Quality & Conservation

“Living in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, it is easy to forget we must conserve water. Water is a renewable resource, yet many are concerned about the quantity and quality of drinking water. Water treatment and delivery both require consumption of resources.”

– Erika Bailey-Johnson (Strategic Plan)

Hydration Stations

As of Spring 2011, in addition to distributing reusable water bottles, BSU’s campus featured two bottle-filling stations attached to water fountains. The Green Fee Mini Grant, Residential Life, and the Student Union helped pay for these stations.

That fall, a People of the Environment student group successfully worked on installing more stations. Five stations were installed before the Spring 2012 semester. The Sustainability Office’s goal is to provide easily accessible, filtered water through a bottle-filling station on every floor in every building.  We hope students, faculty, staff, and community members will fill reusable bottles with filtered tap water instead of consuming plastic bottled water.
