Program Overview

The Field-Based Elementary Program at Bemidji StatField-Based Elementary Studentse University offers a unique apprenticeship model supported by Teacher Apprenticeship MN (Education MN) to increase teachers of color in elementary classrooms. Teacher candidates who are enrolled in the Field-Based Elementary program are working as paraprofessionals in elementary schools AND their work/role is recognized as an “apprentice” by the Department of Labor and Industry through the coordination of Teacher Apprenticeship Minnesota. Please contact Teacher Apprenticeship Minnesota (Education Minnesota Program) for more information about earning an “apprentice” designation.

Over three years (summer, fall, spring semesters), participants earn a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, gaining extensive hands-on experience in real classroom settings focusing on culturally responsive pedagogy.
