Published since 1979, the Oshkaabewis Native Journal has served as an interdisciplinary forum for significant contributions to knowledge about the Ojibwe language.
From 1995 to 2026, BSU Professor of Ojibwe Anton Treuer served as editor of the journal. In 2026, stewardship of the ONJ transferred from Bemidji State University to Midwest Indigenous Immersion Network (MIIN).
