Minnesota State University Association of Administrative & Service Faculty (MSUAASF) Scholarship
APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 15, 2023
The Minnesota State University Association of Administrative & Service Faculty (ASF) union will award five (5) $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing their first bachelor’s degree at one of the seven Minnesota State Universities in 2023-2024. The scholarship may be used for any field of study, to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, housing, food, etc. up to the cost of attendance. Applicants do not need to be a part of the ASF bargaining unit or be related to a member of ASF. Applications are open February 1 – March 15.

Audrey Erskine Scholarship
APPLICATION DEADLINE: June 1, 2023
The Audrey Erskine Scholarship Award ranges between $350 – $500.
Applicants must be:
- Pursuing a course of study to become a teacher at the preschool, elementary, or secondary level
- Currently a student in their junior or senior year of college
- A current member of Education Minnesota Student Program (preferred)

To be eligible for all scholarships at BSU, fill out the Foundation Scholarship Application before Feb 1st.
“Dr.B” – W.F. Bornschlegl Scholarship
Criteria: Junior or senior Education major with a 3.25 GPA and financial aid need.
Al Clark Scholarship
Criteria: Up to two “Al Clark Scholarships”, to BSU junior or senior students majoring in Business, Education, Engineering, Science, or Math. Preference to a student in one of the above related majors who are also Laporte High School graduates.
Andi and Mike Garrett Geographic Education Scholarship
Criteria: To the outstanding junior majoring in Geography and minimum overall GPA of 3.0. A student meeting the same class standing and GPA requirement majoring in Social Studies Education. Secondary Level, may be considered for this award. The scholarship is intended for ONE student and shall not be split among multiple students until such time as the award amount would exceed the cost of tuition for one student.
Annie B. Henry African American Scholarship
Criteria: Junior or Senior, Major in Elementary Ed or Secondary Ed, 2.8 GPA, and African American student enrolled full time. Should there be no African American student(s) who meet the requirements, the scholarship(s) shall be awarded to any education major(s) who are committed and has demonstrated promoting ethnic and cultural diversity.
Bemidji Area Retention Scholarship
Criteria: Preference for students living in the Bemidji “area” (about a 40-mile radius of Bemidji). Preference to Elm/Secondary Education, Music, or Science majors. Preference to single parents and/or American Indians.
Bertha Christianson Scholarship
Criteria: Sophomore, junior, or senior, majoring in Elementary Education with 2.5+ GPA. Preference for students studying art, music, or physical education endorsement as well.
Beulah Gregorie Scholarship
Criteria: Physical Education major, minimum GPA of 3.0, exhibit professional leadership qualities, creative talents and/or campus contributions through scholarship essay.
Boris and Caroline Andrican Scholarship
Criteria: For an undergraduate student(s) of at least junior class status, with at least a 3.25 GPA and a declared major in Elementary Education. In order to receive the Andrican Scholarship, the student(s) should be known to the selection committee to have the personality, character, responsible nature, and academic ability that will positively reflect upon the teaching profession at the BSU Department of Professional Education.
Christine E. Janda Scholarship
Criteria: One half of the annual Christine E. Janda Scholarships shall be awarded to students who meet the criteria established for admission in the Professional Education Program. The other half of the Christine E. Janda Scholarships shall be awarded to students seeking Special Education license. Applicants must meet BSU admission requirements for graduate school. Recipients will be selected by the Department Scholarship Selection Committee, which will include a representative from the Special Ed program, using application criteria they will establish.
David J. Marchand/Edgar Gangware Music Education Scholarship
Criteria: Junior or senior Music Education major who shows exceptional promise as a teacher. Preference to a student who has demonstrated excellence in student teaching or who has shown outstanding talent as a student conductor.
Delta Kappa Gamma Society International/Hazel Shimmin Scholarship
Criteria: Female undergraduate student majoring in education (student teaching/education intern) with financial need and a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Dr. Roger, Dixie and Amy Rasmussen Scholarship
Criteria: Senior student who is majoring in Professional Education,entering their student teaching experience within the academic year and who has a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Ed Gersich Distance Education Scholarship
Criteria: Junior or Senior in an external studies program (online or off-site) who is 25 or older and has a 3.0 GPA.
Elmen/Cedsel (Hansen) Hagen Scholarship
Criteria: Sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in Professional Education.
Ernest Plath Scholarship
Criteria: Junior or senior majoring in Education.
Esther & Alfred C. Instebo Scholarship
Criteria: Full time Education major, minimum GPA 2.5, preference to American Indian students, preference for enrolled member of MN based Indian Tribe.
Evelyn W. Berg Scholarship
Criteria: Major in Education, graduate of a Minnesota high school, maintained a minimum first year GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and must be a second year student.
Grant Bateman Scholarship
Criteria: Elementary Education major from MN with financial need.
Gwen (Ranzau) and Madeline Campbell Memorial Scholarship
Criteria: Major of Elementary or Secondary Education with a preference to student(s) pursuing the Math Education Endorsement.
Harry F. Bangsberg Memorial Scholarship for Asian Studies
Criteria: Sophomore, junior, senior, or Grad student participating in the Education Abroad Program. Preference to student with emphasis in Asian Studies who meets all the other award criteria, but if no such student applies, the award shall then be made available to students who anticipate an education abroad experience and who meet other established criteria, even if they are not focused on Asian studies. Minimum GPA of 2.5.
Hazel M. Leland Physical Education Scholarship
Criteria: A female sophomore student who is majoring in Physical Education.
James and Marilyn Heltzer Education Scholarship
Criteria: Education major, preference to incoming student and/or graduate of Bemidji High School, minimum GPA of 3.0.
John and Anne Brady Scholarship
Criteria: Education major with Financial Aid need.
John and Dana Yourd Endowment
Criteria: Student in vocal or instrumental music who is planning a career in K-12 education.
Jorstad Science Scholarship
Criteria: Recipient(s) of this award must be junior or senior status in the year they received the award disbursements, in good academic standing, and pursuing a degree in earth science or science education. Consideration of financial need, service, and leadership shall also be criteria for the award.
Julie and Scott Becker Elementary Education Scholarship
Criteria: Junior or Senior student attending BSU who is majoring in Professional Education who has a minimum GPA of 3.0.
LeRoy Erickson Scholarship
Criteria: Major in science education or math education. Students must have demonstrated financial need, minimum GPA of 2.5.
Lueken Family Instrumental Scholarship
Criteria: The recipient must be a major of Vocal Music or Educational Instruction with a preference for a string instrument if a string program exists at BSU.
Margaret H. Johnson Scholarship
Criteria: Sophomore, junior, or senior student(s) majoring in education with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
Marie Bishop Scholarship
Criteria: Junior or senior majoring in Early Childhood/Elementary Education.
Marion Christianson and Betsy McDowell Scholarship
Criteria: Junior or senior Physical Education teaching major with a 3.0 GPA and involved in activities.
McKee/Havumaki Scholarship
Criteria: Education major
Myrtie Hunt Alumni Scholarship
Criteria: Junior or senior majoring in Physical Education with a minimum 2.25 GPA.
Otto Erickson Memorial Fund
Criteria: Health, Physical Education or Recreation major with 3.0 GPA and financial aid need.
Randy and Marlene Bowen Education Scholarship
Criteria: The recipient of this award must be a student athlete majoring in Professional Education. Preference will be given to Professional Education majors with an emphasis in science or math.
Ray Nelson Scholarship
Criteria: Freshman student with demonstrated financial need, majoring in education, GPA of 2.5. Preference to US citizens.
Roy and Eva Lind Scholarship
Criteria: Upperclassmen (Junior or Senior) in Elementary Education.
Sam and Peggy Johnson Scholarships in HPSH
Criteria: To student(s) entering or enrolled at Bemidji State University who are majoring in Physical Education, Health, or Sport.
Terri and Tim Traudt Scholarship
Criteria: Shall be awarded to a senior for 2022/23 majoring in Professional Education. Preference to a black student majoring in elementary education.
Theola Marsh Smith Scholarship
Criteria: Recipient must have a GPA of 3.25 or higher, be enrolled in the teacher education undergraduate program, and have been an active participant in a related teacher education activity such as a teaching associate, an officer of PESA, volunteer work, etc.
Tom and Sandy Richard Elementary Math Scholarship
Criteria: Student(s) majoring in elementary education with an emphasis in mathematics.
Wag Collins Scholarship Fund
Criteria: Sophomore, junior, or senior Math Education major.
Walrath Family Scholarship
Criteria: To one or more BSU students who have successfully completed at least one year of college level work at BSU or another institution of education in case of transfer students who have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 (based in a grade of C=2.0) at the end of the last recorded semester (or other term) at BSU or at another institution of education in the case of transfer students.
Willie Stittsworth Scholarship
Criteria: Junior or senior majoring in Elm Education with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
