On-Campus Living for First-Year Students

All first-year students live on campus in either Oak or Tamarack Hall and participate in the First Year Residential Experience (FYRE) program.

Oak Hall

Oak ExteriorOak is home to 525 residents participating in the First Year Residential Experience (FYRE) program. It has three wings and is alive with a strong sense of tradition and endless activities. Oak encourages academics through large study spaces and resources. There is always something going on here, from volleyball to game nights in the basement lounge.

Tamarack Hall

Tamarack ExteriorTamarack is home to more than 350 residents on 12 floors and is also part of the First Year Residential Experience (FYRE) program. It also has two floors for students interested in outdoor adventure, an indoor adventures floor and the Honors Learning Community. A fun fact: Tamarack is the tallest building in Bemidji! Upper floor rooms and the 12th-floor lounges let you view the lake, the city and the beautiful north country. The views are incredible!

Pine Hall

Pine ExteriorPine is a welcoming community for upper division students. It is the smallest hall on campus, housing 107 residents on four floors. Every double-sized room is offered as a single. Though small in size, Pine is big on great amenities. The penthouse lounge offers beautiful views, and the lower level features a spacious game room with fireplace and a comfortable study lounge. Pine floors are single-gender.

Birch Hall

Birch ExteriorBirch houses roughly 200 residents in single and double rooms. All floors were designed with inspiration from our Minnesota north woods culture and are designated for upper division students. Birch offers gender inclusive floor bathrooms with private shower and toilet rooms.

Linden Hall

Linden ExteriorLinden houses approximately 180 upper division students in two- and three-person suites, each with a shared bathroom. Linden boasts a gaming room, movable furniture, outdoor gathering spaces and spectacular lake views.

Cedar Apartments

Cedar exteriorCedar is reserved for single parents and their children, featuring two- and three-bedroom apartments. In addition to a secure playground and a play space in the basement, the building features an adjacent parking lot and access to on-campus facilities via underground walkways.

University Heights Apartment Rates

Effective August 1, 2022, University Heights will no longer constitute Bemidji State Housing. The owners of the property, JT Properties LLC, will be leasing spaces in this building as off-campus housing to BSU students and others at the following rates:

Apartment Contracts: 10 Months (August 1-May 31) at $750/month WITH AN OPTIONAL DISCOUNTED SUMMER RATE for 2 months (June-July) at $500/month.

This building was designed with students in mind. The building has 8 three-bedroom and 8 four-bedroom apartments, which are fully furnished and coed-optional, with each resident having a private bedroom with locks. Apartments have a full, open kitchen with a dishwasher, refrigerator, oven and microwave; a washer and dryer; and two full bathrooms per unit, plus additional vanities to accommodate every resident. Additional amenities include a flat-screen TV, wireless, digital cable, and a location just immediately adjacent to campus. Students can join with friends to lease an entire apartment or lease a single bedroom in an apartment shared by others. Residents can take advantage of the close proximity and walk to classes. The university is providing this information about University Heights as a resource for students.
