Visiting Faculty Program: Elements

Bemidji State University will accommodate a NorthStar visiting scholar for one semester, 6 months or an entire calendar year and provide the following:

  • A fully furnished bedroom in an apartment or house, including all utilitiesand kitchen supplies
  • Research facilities, Internet and campus intranet access, and office space upon request
  • Semester-long seminars on the U.S. education system, culture, regional history and government
  • Semester-long social, cultural and outdoor activities on campus and within the community
  • Access to selected university courses, the library, Gillette Wellness Center and other campus facilities
  • A Bemidji State University faculty member as a mentor and facilitator
  • Sightseeing and field trips in Minnesota
  • Airport(BJI) pick up
  • Free English Learning Center lessons that meets once a week in a semester when there is a total of 6 or more program participants
  • Super fee, which allows access to BSU Health Services and Athletic Events
  • $100 Beaver bucks to spend on food on campus

UPDATE: For winter semester, we recently adjusted the program start date to Mid February (after Lunar Chinese New Year), and the program end date to the end of May. Please contact Josefina Li for questions regarding program dates and duration.

The following costs are not included in the program fee:

  • Round-trip travel costs to Bemidji
  • Visa fees where applicable
  • Personal expenses and food
  • Health insurance (required; approximately $975/semester or $1,600/year)
  • Additional English Language Center instruction classes for Credits
